History

Empire College proudly celebrated its 50th Golden Jubilee year in 2011 with a series of events to honor its alumni and employers. Established in 1961 to meet the needs of local companies, the School of Business has not just been around for 50 years; it has been involved for 50 years. Fostering community outreach with his philanthropy in the North Bay and throughout the state of California, Empire’s founder, Henry Trione, established the college as part of the fabric of the community since its inception.

In fact, Empire College was recently commended for 50 years of providing high-quality business and legal educational opportunities in Sonoma County. Shirlee Zane, who is familiar with Empire's community outreach on behalf of the Council on Aging, presented the Gold Resolution to Henry Trione and Roy Hurd, president of Empire College.

The Gold Resolution outlines the rich history, educational mission and community philanthropy of Empire College, starting when Henry Trione founded the college to help fill a shortage of trained secretaries and bookkeepers in the local business community.

Several notable facts and achievements of Empire College graduates, faculty and staff are highlighted in the commendation, including our strong presence in the Sonoma County Bar Association, our commitment to providing quality training, and the billions in revenue and tax dollars that our graduates contribute to the local economy.

This honor follows recognition from the California State Assembly and Senate, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives which entered a commendation into the Congressional Record on November 1, 2011.

Since it opened, Empire College School of Business has been helping students reach their full potential and achieve employment in the career fields of their choice. We have dedicated our resources to providing quality career education that incorporates service-based learning, gives graduates an advantage in the job market and provides them with the skills employers require. This is not only our goal, but our legacy.
